The Department of Bioresources and Polymer Science (BSP) provides teaching and educational activities in chemical engineering disciplines in the fields of polymer science, biomaterials, bioresources, biotechnologies and dyes, for bachelor’s and master’s degree programs from the Faculty of Applied Chemistry and Materials Science, as well as from other faculties at University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest.

The Department of Bioresources and Polymer Science coordinates several bachelor’s study programs "Polymer Science and Engineering" and "Chemistry and Engineering of Organic Substances, Petrochemistry and Carbochemistry", as well as several Master programs like "Smart Polymers and Biopolymers", "Biorefineries and Bioproducts"at the Faculty of Applied Chemistry and Materials Science.

The main research directions of the Department of Bioresources and Polymer Science are: synthesis of nanohybrid materials, synthesis and characterization of biodegradable composites, synthesis of biomaterials for biomedical applications, polymeric membranes with controlled permeability, hydrogels with special applications, polymeric materials with controlled structure, polymeric nanocomposites, colloidal and dispersion systems, study of influence of microwaves and ultrasounds in chemical processes and enzymatic processes, extraction of active principles from biomass, separation of biomass components for use in biorefineries, synthesis and characterization of dyes with special uses in dynamic phototherapy, as sensors, magnetic materials and materials with optical and electrical properties.
